2024 Student Scholarships


The Minnesota Chapter of the Health Information Management Systems Society is pleased to offer scholarships for students who meet eligibility requirements. These include active participation in chapter activities and in the health information management career field. This scholarship is based on meeting eligibility requirements, not on financial need.  Any students who are eligible are encouraged to apply.

Deadline

The scholarship applications are being accepted now. The deadline to apply for a MN HIMSS Chapter scholarship is June 15th, 2024.

Scholarship Donations

The 2024 scholarship funds were raised by the MN HIMSS Chapter members with generous donations from sponsors.

Eligibility to Apply

ALL of the following requirements MUST be met:

  • Member of the MN HIMSS Chapter (Individual, corporate or organizational membership)

  • Pursuing a degree in an accredited associates, bachelor’s or master’s level program

  • Pursuing a career in Health Information Management and/or engagement in the health

    information management field

Review Process

Scholarship applications will be evaluated based on the candidate’s level of engagement in the Health Information Management field, their personal statement, and having met the eligibility requirements. Engagement in the fields includes, but is not limited to:

  • Active participation in MN HIMSS Chapter committee work (ex. Committee member, leading events, education development).

  • Attendance at chapter events and webinars, including at the national level.

  • Selected and served as 2024 HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition program assistants.

  • Other engagement or advocacy in the Health Information Management field

Academic achievements that have contributed to the Health Information Management field (ex. Publications, Presentations at Conferences, Seminars, Mentoring/Coaching)

Preference will be given to undergraduate students and those early in their careers pursuing a career in the Health Information Management field.

The application process includes:

  • Sending an email to christopherson.laura@mayo.edu (Student Affairs Committee Chair) that includes the following information
    • Name
    • University or College currently attending (if applicable)
    • Resume
  • The email should include the following:
    • Documentation showing applicant is a currently enrolled student
    • A concise personal statement expressing your interest and commitment to the field, no more than 300 words
  • Submit to christopherson.laura@mayo.edu

  • Brief indication of support from a supervisor, professor/instructor, mentor or other individual familiar with the applicant’s career goals

Awards

A total of eight scholarships in the amount of $500 each will be given to cover school expenses. Additionally, several scholarships will be given to cover MN HIMSS student membership fees, up to $1,000 total. Applicants may receive one or both of these two award types.

Scholarship winners will be announced on June 30th, 2024 and posted on the MN HIMSS Chapter website. Winners will be contacted following the announcement and the actual award checks will be forwarded to them. The winners will be recognized on the MN HIMSS Chapter website, in chapter newsletters and at a future chapter meeting, following the announcement.
